Average First Arrival Date for Migrant Birds
in the Tanana Valley
The upper Tanana Valley is an excellent location for
observing migratory birds. Many migrants travel down the Tanana
River Valley -- which is relatively narrow in the Delta Junction
vicinity. Sawmill Creek Road is one good location as it crosses a
substantial portion of the valley.
(Thanks to Brina Kessel and Dan Gibson of the University of Alaska Museum who compiled the data on which these dates are
based.)
