Delta Junction is "the friendly frontier" at the end of the Alaska Highway

Delta Junction is the actual end of the Alaska HighwayThe community of Delta Junction is a mix of all “tastes”: outdoor enthusiasts, medical and engineering professionals, photographers, downhill & cross-country skiers, snow-machiners, hikers, hunters and fishermen. We have observed that there really is something in our community for just about everyone.

A visitor looks at the "End of the Alaska Highway" monument outside of the Delta visitor center.

Delta Junction’s past history was that of a “road community” characterized by the typical traveler service organizations, motels, gift shops, etc. Other businesses located here to support the Cold Regions Test Center and Northern Warfare Training Centers located at Fort Greely just 5 miles south of Delta Junction.

The community downsized when the Department of Defense dramatically reduced staffing levels at Fort Greely beginning in 1996.

Today, Fort Greely is the site of an important Anti-Ballistic Missile Test Site with substantial improvements being added to Fort Greely. These improvements have had a very positive affect on the economic environment of Delta Junction. School enrollment is on the up swing, home sales are increasing, and restaurants and the local grocery store are expanding.

Land use is not heavily regulated, local lakes; rivers and streams produce fish, relaxation and wild life viewing. Because Delta Junction is located adjacent the Delta River and between two mountain ranges, our scenery is breathtaking. Fall colors are spectacular.

This Alaska Highway sign welcomes visitors to Delta Junction.
